The Zajonc Experimental Laboratories is an experimental space for human subjects research and training. The lab, consisting of 2,750 square feet of space, is set-up to provide flexibility in designing experiments as well as reducing the time needed to run them. Zajonc Laboratories is host to several sub-facilities, including the U-M HomeLab and ISR VR Lab. For more information about the Zajonc lab spaces, please contact Robert Kaikati.

The Zajonc footprint offers a variety of room configurations to run participant studies such as:

  • Individual computer cubicles
  • Control rooms
  • Interviewing rooms
  • Ancillary storage spaces
  • Small, medium, and large size office spaces
  • The ISR VR Lab
    • The ISR VR Lab is dedicated to providing resources and support for the integration of XR (VR, AR, MR) in human subjects research for members of the University of Michigan community and its partners. Contact [email protected].
  • The U-M HomeLab
    • The HomeLab is a simulation space designed primarily as a home, but reconfigurable as simulate other environments (e.g., a clinic exam room). HomeLab is dedicated to supporting researchers who want to observe participant behavior in environments that are ecologically valid but still highly controlled (i.e. ‘middlespaces’). The HomeLab is outfitted with a wide variety of cameras, microphones, and environmental/physiological sensors, including a technologically advanced control room and observation platform. Contact [email protected].

The physical and technical configuration of each room can be adjusted to fit individual research goals.

Available software includes, but is not limited to, PST E-Prime, z-Tree, PsychoPy, and Empirisoft MediaLab/DirectRT.
