Her research interests center around social, developmental, and contextual influences on the academic and social development of African American youth in secondary and higher education settings. Published studies and current research projects focus on: the intersection of racial and gender identity development among ethnic minority youth and implications for achievement attitudes and behaviors; developmental transitions during adolescence among ethnic minority students, particularly transitions to adulthood; and measurement and impact of racial climate in secondary and post secondary educational contexts.
Tabbye currently is involved with the Social Justice Initiative in the School of Education and is research co-director with the Program for Intergroup Relations on campus. In the latter capacity, she has developed research assessing the impact of diversity-related courses on social and academic outcomes among college students.
